Jack, our two adult children and I stayed at the Creole Inn for 4 nights during our vacation in New Orleans this past week. We arrived around midnight and were cheerfully welcomed by Gail, our very friendly and helpful innkeeper, despite the late hour. We stayed in the Old Europe suite on the street level. Every day we walked and walked around the city, taking in the sites and eating our way around. In the evening we would listen to music (our favorite place for jazz was The Spotted Cat, only a short distance from the Inn) then return to the Inn and collapse into the most comfortable bed. In the morning there was always fresh coffee and hot water for tea or hot chocolate, a perfect beginning to our morning's exploration of the yummy bakery stores nearby. The area surrounding the Inn was surprisingly quiet and it was nice to walk out onto a neighborhood street with lovely homes with their classic New Orleans balconies. The only improvement I would mention is that, because our room was very small, it would be nice to have hooks everywhere (on the bedroom doors, the bathroom door and even in the gap between the two bedrooms). We happened to be in N.O. for a cold spell (46º!) and our bedroom got terribly hot (I guess I shouldn't complain, we could have been seeing our breath instead!).
Despite these small factors, we would highly recommend the Creole Inn to other travelers and we would definitely stay again on a return visit. Thank you Gail for making us feel at home and welcome. And I hope your cat returned to you unharmed.
